Effective July 2022 Gus Gus has added a 3% “Healthcare and Employee Wellness” surcharge to our pricing structure.

Pursuant to Minnesota Statute Section 177.23, subdivision 9, this service charge is not a gratuity for employee service.

This small surcharge allows us to provide a stipend to all of our employees, regardless of full or part-time employment. This is distributed amongst the entire staff (minus owners) based upon hours worked to help cover the costs of their health and wellness expenses.

Why not just raise our prices and bundle it in?

We believe that this is the most transparent approach to our pricing. Our menu prices reflect what it takes to simply operate day to day, while paying our staff fairly, and the surcharge reflects what it costs to provide something more for them. Whether we bundled it in, or itemized it as we do now, we feel that we’d owe an explanation either way as to why pricing is higher, so here we are.

We may very well shift gears on how we do this in the future, but for now, this is the best way we’ve found to take care of our team, which is extremely important to us.

Cheers!
